About Me

Shihui (Sisi) Yin, born in China, holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Oberlin Conservatory and a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Northwestern University. Throughout her formal music studies, she has worked primarily with Alvin Chow, Alan Chow, Boris Slutsky, Lewis Nielson, Galina Popova, and Daxin Zheng.

A Luminarts Fellow in Classical Music, a passionate piano educator, and a dynamic content creator, Shihui is deeply committed not only to traditional teaching approaches but also to promoting classical music to a broader audience through digital media. She creates original video content that integrates music history, music theory, and music performance, making classical music engaging and accessible to diverse learners and audiences.

Her online presence, Sisi, and her sought-after channel  Sisi Talking about Music (Sisi谈琴) have grown substantially, with over 125,000 followers across platforms such as Bilibili and YouTube. This creative work in music analysis and public outreach has profoundly enriched her pedagogical approach, infusing her teaching with a multifaceted artistic vision, deeper interpretive insight, and a broad, refined aesthetic perspective.

In recent years, Shihui has designed and taught several online courses in music appreciation and piano performance for audiences primarily in China. Through this pedagogical work, she aspires to transcend mere technical instruction, cultivating a broader, deeper, and more holistic artistic reflection on music. Most notably, she co-developed and taught a comprehensive 52-week curriculum in collaboration with world-renowned pianist Lang Lang.

With over a decade of experience in music education and piano pedagogy, Shihui’s piano teaching focuses on developing well-rounded musicianship, healthy physical techniques, injury prevention, and productive, effective practice habits and strategies. Her students have achieved outstanding recognition and top prizes at prestigious local, state, and international competitions.

Shihui is an enthusiastic member of MTNA and NSMTA, serving as a coordinator of the annual NSMTA Sonata-Sonatina Festival. She is experienced in exam prep from level 1 through 12 of the AIM (Achievement in Music).

Beyond music, Shihui enjoys doing CrossFit, cooking, and spending quality time with her husband and two sons.
